Getting To Hook Norton:

The village lies between Banbury and Chipping Norton, and is signposted from the A361 just outside the village of Bloxham.

If you use a sat nav, go to OX15 5NH.  This will land you in the centre of the village, where you may find parking outside the Sun Inn.  Like any rural community, parking is a problem, please be considerate of the residents.  PLEASE NOTE – THERE IS NO PARKING AT ANY OF OUR FEATURED PROPERTIES – so please try to park in the centre of the village.  The information point, The Barn, Hare Cottage, is just  a short walk to the west from the church, look out for a Green Homes Day Sign.  The entrance is off Watery Lane.

PROPERTIES YOU CAN VISIT

Beanacre Cottage.  Hook Norton’s first and probably most complete “Green Home”.  Designed by TV presenter Charlie Luxton, it is actually Charlie’s home.  Featuring a whole house refurbishment, including wood pellet boiler, solar hot water, rainwater recovery, wood fibre insulation, and double glazing, Beanacre Cottage is part of the Old Homes Superhomes Network.

39 Hollybush Road.  An example of how a simple change of materials can transform the usability of a room.  If you are interested in learning about the HNLC loans process, this is someone to talk to.

2 The Green.  This home demonstrates just what can be achieved when trying to transform an old, leaky, cold house, into a warm, beautiful and low energy home.

 Hare Cottage and Barn. Conversion of an old barn that had seen service as a printing works, butchers shop, farm building and many other uses in its long history, into a large open living space, en suite bathroom and home office.  This is also Green Homes Day central information point.  See the case study for details and location map.

Endeavour.  16 pv panels and also 30 Philips Fournelle evacuated solar tubes on the south facing roof of this property.  This property opens at 2pm.

The Old Post Office. This ongoing project features solar water heating, breathable insulation and many other features and is not yet complete, giving you a chance to see the work in progress.
