Our Car Club
Hook Norton Car Club is a community-owned car club. It is run by its members, for its members. Unlike a car hire firm, members are required to assist in the running of the Club by taking care of the Club’s vehicles and ensuring its cars are left in good condition for other members to use and enjoy.
Since being launched in 2011, the Club has grown to have a fleet of six vehicles which makes it the largest community-owned car club in the UK. The number of active members has also grown considerably over time and currently numbers about 120 members as at October 2024.
The Club has enabled numerous households to reduce the number of cars they own, many of which were older more-polluting vehicles. The Club has also given users the opportunity to experience driving and charging electric vehicles and has enabled many current and former members to make the decision to purchase their own EV.
The vast majority of our members are mindful of the Club’s rules and treat our cars with care and respect, ensuring that they are left ready for other members to use. However, as with any club of this type, sometimes members forget their obligations to the Club and to other members. In order to provide an incentive for all of our members to use our cars in accordance with the rules of the Club and to be considerate of the needs of other members, as of 8 October 2024 the Club has introduced a series of charges to cover the costs incurred by the Club in resolving issues caused by members failing to discharge their obligations.
