The great news is, Hooky Energy Club is open to the wider area including Bloxham, Tadmarton, Milcombe, Adderbury and Bodicote, as well as the existing areas of Hook Norton, Sibfords, Brailes, Epwell and Shutford. Now with the link to a local solar farm and anaerobic digester (AD) plant we can also set our prices as a community independent on the gas price jumping around as a result of despotic leaders. Whether it be Putin in Ukraine or Trump in Iran.

We are setting the price for electricity at 13 p/kWh between 8am and 5pm when the sun is shining and our community is powered by our solar farm partner Wattcrop in Sibford. This is half of the UK’s energy price cap now.
Then we have 24 hours a day seven days a week generation from our anaerobic digester (AD) partner Stour Energy in Swalcliffe which means that we can set the price at 20 p/kWh for the rest of the time between 5pm and 8am.
Adding the AD as well as solar PV from the 1st April 2026 has made it simpler for everyone. No high peak prices at certain times of the day. All through the day your electricity price is lower than the UK’s energy price cap. The UK sets its wholesale electricity price based on the gas price, so whenever there is worldwide shock to the oil price from events like the invasion of Ukraine or the bombing of Iran, electricity prices rise. But it doesn’t have to be like that. Gas prices don’t set electricity prices in France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Iceland, Brazil and Canada.
Accessing the tariff does not require any changes to the electricity connection to your property and is no different to switching energy suppliers or tariffs as is commonly done.

How It Works:
The Hooky Energy Club enables local electricity consumers in Hook Norton, the Sibfords, Epwell, Brailes, Shutford, Bloxham, Tadmarton, Swalcliffe, Wroxton, Milcombe, Adderbury, Bodicote, and surrounding villages to benefit directly from low-cost energy that is produced by locally-connected renewable electricity generators, such as the solar farm next to Sibford School and the anaerobic digester (AD) plant in Swalcliffe. The solar park was built by local farmer John Taylor and is now run by his son Ben Taylor. The anaerobic digester plant is run by James Taylor. They are important partners in this ground-breaking community initiative.
What do you need to do if you want to join Hooky Energy Club?
To be able to join the energy club and benefit from cheaper, greener, local energy households and businesses will first need to have a smart meter fitted if they haven’t already got one. The great thing about smart meters is that they record when households use electricity, as well as how much.
The smart meter will enable 100Green, the green electricity supplier that the club has partnered with, to know who is consuming power when the solar farm and AD plant is generating and can benefit from the lower price the scheme offers for electricity consumed at those times. At the rare times when the solar farm is not generating and the AD plant has its two days a year closedown for routing maintenance 100Green (https://www.greenenergyuk.com/) will supply electricity to members from the grid.

How to join the Hooky Energy Club:
- Ask your current energy supplier to install a smart meter – that then gives you the options to stay with them, or to switch to the energy club. Alternatively, 100Green are also happy to switch you over to a smart meter if you are prepared to move to their standard energy tariff initially until they install a smart meter in your home.

Energy Generation Charts
The charts below allow everyone to see the actual level of generation and consumption from the solar farm in the energy club (the anaerobic digestor generation will be added soon):
a) Forecast generation from the solar farm for the current day:
You can hover your cursor over the particular half hour time slot that is of particular interest to see the forecast level of generation compared to the forecast cumulative consumption of electricity by the Energy Club participants. These graphs serve to illustrate how many more participants we can comfortably accommodate in the Energy Club at present.
b) Forecast for tomorrow:
The forecast for the following day can also be viewed to see if that is likely to have greater or lower energy generation compared to consumption in the times when you want to use energy:
These forecasting tools are provided by Iquira Energy Innovation (former Fractal Networks R&D), who is our technology partner doing all the detailed modelling and simulations to ensure the community gets the most value from the local matching of energy generation and use.
