Hook Norton Low Carbon has set out to actively reduce the amount of energy we use in our homes and travel, which as well as helping with climate change has had big benefits on our wallets. One of the initiatives to reduce carbon emissions started by HNLC is the Hooky Car Club which has bought three cars for community use that run on waste-oil diesel fuel.

Hooky Car Club could be for you:

  • If you are running two cars but could manage with one most of the time;
  • If you need a car with a tow-bar and trailer once in a while;
  • If you have a small car and could use an estate car now and again;
  • If you occasionally need a car for private and business trips but don’t want to own one;
  • If you own a big car and occasionally need a small one;
  • If you would you find it useful to have a backup car for holidays or work when yours is off the road.

Joining Hooky Car Club, instead of running your own car, is a big step towards greening your environmental footprint. In one easy move, you can cut your carbon emissions, cut your contribution to congestion, and cut the number of cars in our village.

If you drive less than 6,000 miles per year the Car Club could save up to £3,500 per year (according to CarPlus). As an example of cost savings, if you were to buy a new Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Titanium it could depreciate by £8500 in the first year.

Go by car to the theatre in Oxford and the Club Car would cost about £25 while your own car could cost over £8 in fuel alone. Take a trip to a Banbury supermarket and the club car could cost less than £12.

As a member of the Hooky Car Club you won’t pay for insurance, servicing, MOT, road tax or depreciation so for an occasional user it can work out much cheaper than owning your own car. Instead of worrying about arranging the servicing and all the rest leave it to the Hooky Car Club.
